Lip blushing is a form of semi-permanent makeup. Essentially, it is a cosmetic tattoo of the lips that enhances the beauty of the natural lip color, improving the shape of the lips, giving definition and the illusion of fullness. Consultation required before procedure.

Make sure you read Pre-Care before booking.
  • Wash thoroughly before the procedure, no makeup, lipsticks or lotions the day of the procedure.
  • ((We highly recommend contacting your doctor to have a consultation about the information below and get a prescription for Acyclovir or similar antiviral pills and or cream if they consent.))
  • Follow all doctor recommendations. 2 days before the procedure for a 5-7 day course is recommended.
  • ((Warning, if you don’t start taking antiviral medication and you have had Cold Sores or HSV Type 1 in the past you will have a 90% chance of a breakout around 3-4 days after the procedure.))
  • If you have had any type of lip surgery, consult with the physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent makeup procedure on the lips.
  • Lip fillers: You must wait 6 months after lip injections to get this procedure.

It is recommended you wait 90 days after the Lip Blush procedure to get lip fillers.

  • It is best not to have multiple lip filler injections and multiple permanent lip coloring within the same year.
  • Oral prosthesis dentures/ partials/ braces and tongue piercing bars may increase risk of getting bacterial and/or fungal infection from the mouth to the lips.
  • Frequent or recent sinus infection puts lips at risk of infection.
  • Denture wearers generally carry a higher candida/ yeast count. Cutaneous candidiasis/ candidosis is more common in older women (angular stomatitis – perlèche, angular cheilitis). Recent antibiotic therapy can be responsible for a high candida count.
  • Steroid medications and antacid drugs can allow candida to overpopulate. Smokers tend to have a high count also. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
  • The bacteria-yeast balance in the mouth can get out of whack, and the oral saliva will get in the holes made by tattooing lips.
  • Lips can get infected easily. Bacterial infections clear up more quickly than Candida Albicans infections. It is possible to have a co-infection when both bacteria and fungus are involved.
  • It is possible to get a candida infection right after clearing up a bacterial infection.
  • It is normal to have discomfort or a feeling of pressure the day of the lip procedure.

The next day should be minimal.

  • If you begin having pain on the 3rd or 4th day after being pain-free, it is a signal that something is wrong. It is usually one of three things: 1) Infection, 2) Cold sore, or 3) Allergic contact dermatitis from antibiotic ointment. Switch ointments to rule out that as the cause, and consider a culture to determine bacterial vs yeast infection.
  • After each meal rinse your mouth with cool water then pat dry your lips with a clean unused cloth then re-apply a thin coating of antibiotic ointment to your lips.
  • Avoid eating salty, hot and or spicy foods.
  • Avoid stress, drink enough water and rest enough.

(Do not drink excessive amounts of water before bedtime.)

  • Keep your lips moist and clean.
  • Avoid activities that cause sweating, direct exposure to the sun and excessive heat.((Steam or sauna)).
  • Do not go swimming in the ocean or pools until your lips have completely healed. ((YOU COULD GET AN INFECTION FROM BACTERIA IN THE WATER.))
  • Healing time will be 2-10 days.
  • When the scabs start to peel off, you will retain 40-60%, and then the pigment will fade away, in some cases your lips will be darker than before the procedure but don’t worry it’s from needle bruising. The pigment will slowly return in 1-3 months. This is normal for lip pigmentation. If your lips were dark before, multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired color result.
  • Do not use lipstick for 7 days. If you absolutely need to put on lipstick before the end of 7 days, apply antibiotic ointment to your lips before you apply the lipstick.
  • Do not use petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) it traps moisture and bacteria, which can lead to infections and scarring.
  • ((**CAUTION**)) People who have been infected by the herpes virus or have extreme cold sores will break out after 2-4 days. You may not even know that you have been infected in the past.

As a precaution it is highly recommended you ask your doctor for a prescription for Acyclovir or similar antiviral pill. If you don’t, you may or may not break out, but this could save you a lot of embarrassment.

  • ((If your lips become infected or you see excessive swelling, contact your doctor immediately!))
  • Each person is different; your lips may swell a little for the first couple days.

You may use a cooling pad or cooling gel on your lips area. This will help reduce the swelling.

What is Lip Blush?
Lip blushing is a form of semi-permanent makeup. Essentially, it is a cosmetic tattoo of the lips that enhances the beauty of the natural lip color, improving the shape of the lips, giving definition and the illusion of fullness.

Lip Blush Tattoo is NOT recommended if:

  1. You are under the age of 18.
  2. You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  3. You are undergoing Chemotherapy or Radiation treatments.
  4. You are taking prescribed medications on a daily basis including Antibiotics, Steroids or Blood Thinners.
  5. You have skin conditions such as Keloid, Skin Diseases, or issues to include Rosacea or Overly-Sensitive Skin.
  6. You have had any Lip filler within the last 6 months.
  7. You have Diabetes type 1 or epilepsy.
  8. Please inform your artist if you have any allergies, medical conditions, or take any medications.
Of all permanent makeup procedures, the permanent lip enhancement procedure is the most sensitive. However we do numb your lips prior to and throughout the procedure with a highly effective topical anesthetic for your comfort.
As a necessary precaution, we require ALL of our Lip Blush clients to take an antiviral medication for a total of 5-7 days (2 days prior to the procedure and 3 to 5 days post-procedure). Examples of antiviral medications: Zovirax, Famvir, Famciclovir, Valacyclovir, Valtrex or Acyclovir. There are absolutely NO exceptions to this rule! This rule holds true for each and every time you have any lip tattoo. You will need to contact your physician in order to obtain your prescription strength anti-viral medication. You must inform them of your decision to have permanent cosmetics applied to your lips and they will need to call your prescription in for you to pick up at your pharmacy.
A minimum of 6 months post-filler is required before your Lip Blush appointment. It is recommended that you have the permanent lip enhancement first and then the lip filler injection once your lips are healed.
We have over 50 lip colors in our collection. You and your artist will discuss which colors suit you based on your natural lip color. Once your lips have healed, you may still enhance or change the color of your lips at any time with conventional.
Your lips may be swollen and slightly larger than normal and look as though you may have had a slight lip filler injection. The degree of this varies from person to person. The pigment and lip color will look darker initially, like a bold lipstick. The size of your lips will shrink back to normal and the color will significantly fade up to 40-60% within the first 4 days. You will lose color on the inside of your lips first, the edges last. Right after the procedure lips normally feel dry, chapped, tight and tender to the touch. Similar to how a sunburn feels.
Expect moderate swelling up to three days following the procedure. Scabbing may make the lips feel thick. When the scabs start to peel off (usually 2-4 days), you will retain 40-60%, and then the pigment will fade away, in some cases your lips will be darker than before the procedure but don’t worry it’s from needle bruising. The pigment will slowly return in 1-3 months. This is normal for lip pigmentation. If your lips were dark before, multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired color result.
A touchup session is considered a perfection session to fill in any spots that did not take pigment well. Touch-up is recommended as everyone heals differently. It can be scheduled anytime after 8 weeks as it takes up to 8 weeks for full results. New procedures are a two step process and final results are sometimes not guaranteed until a follow up visit is completed.
Results will always vary from person to person, after your initial procedure and the touch up, your results should last between 2-5 years. Additional touch ups may be required depending on the person and look desired. Please note that final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.

Cold sores can be a temporary side effect of permanent lip makeup

Lips are especially sensitive. The skin of the lip is very thin compared to the typical face skin. Blood vessels appear through the skin of the lips which leads to their notable red coloring. Since lips are very vascular and because of a high number of nerve endings any trauma around the mouth area may cause an occurrence of cold sores.

What is cold sore and what how it might affect healed results

Cold sores are caused by Herpes Simplex Virus HSV type 1. Treatment can help but this condition can’t be cured completely.

Over 90% of people get at least one cold sore in their life. Cold sores are also called fever blisters that can show on every part of the body but mostly on lips. When you experience blisters they break and ooze, building yellow scab and eventually they fall off.

Your body may develop antibodies, but if not you may suffer blisters for a lifetime. Cold sores mostly spread from person to person by close contact.

Some things may trigger the outbreak like stress, fever, infection, allergies, and sunburns. Usually, they heal nicely but sometimes can leave scars. Permanent Makeup lip color helps cover unwanted white spots on your lips.

The stimulation from the needle can bring out blisters. It can ruin the procedure and make the healing process much worse. What is more, it might result in pigment loss. In this case another touch up is required to fill in faded spots. It is usually a few days after the procedure that cold sore pain begins.

Please remember that cold sores could happen to anyone at any time after the procedure. It is not a sign of incorrect treatment or lack of safety practices, it is the reaction of the skin to the procedure.

About two-thirds of us have been infected with the HSV-1 virus. It usually comes via well-meaning kisses from relatives or romantic partners.

HSV-1 lives in your nerves. It’s pretty quiet most of the time, but you may have triggers that bring it out of hiding and cause cold sores. They can range from sunlight or a fever to stress and getting your period. Some people have no outbreaks or symptoms.

Delicate and gentle machine work can reduce the risk, also please remember about the aftercare process and moisturizing your lips only with cream recommended by your technician. People who get cold sores will need to take preventive antiviral medication.

If you experience an itching or burning sensation contact your doctor to discuss treatment, inform your technician and mostly remember it is temporary. Please don’t use any homemade remedies, since it might cause permanent damage to your skin.

Important Notice before permanent makeup lip procedure

If you have any history of cold sores, fever blisters, caused by virus herpes simplex, you should contact your physician to obtain and take the proper prescription medication to prevent such outbreaks.

It is often recommended to take medicine for at least 2 days before and after the procedure. If you suffer cold sores more often you can consider longer treatment.

Every case is different so might need a different dosage. Many physicians prescribe:

  1. Valtrex
  2. Valacyclovir
  3. ((Acyclovir))
  4. Famvir
  5. Famciclovir

Please follow your doctors instructions. Prevention treatment includes also taking L-lysine supplement.
